We went by to see the Iditarod dogs and headquarters for the race in Wasilla. All the proceeds from the gift shop help fund the race so we bought some children's books. The Iditarod has a ceremonial start in Anchorage and then really starts in Wasilla.
Talkeetna is "Where the road ends and life begins." Isn't that how we should all live life? Talkeetna is your ideal Alaskan town - clapboard storefronts and all.
We stopped at a birch syrup producer on the way into town. It takes 100-115 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup. (Maple syrup is only 40 to 1.). The birch ice cream was awesome!
Denali Brewing Company is in town. Their beer is pretty good. Ashleigh was disappointed they did not have their blueberry wheat. We ate dinner where they filmed Man vs. food eating a HUGE caribou (reindeer) burger.
When we got to town, everyone said that we should be able to see Mt. McKinley....
